The Ingredients of Your Poker Strategies
The strategies you put into your weekly poker game is bent toward the maximum advantages you can get. One of the best strategies you can formulate lies on your deception. But before you can do that you have to know the right set of ingredients to get your deceptions from.
Your ingredients will depend on the game itself, your opponents, and the situation. Remember that in situations and phases of the game some remain constant, some changes. Most of the time, situations change every betting round and every bet made by your opponents. A different ballgame happens when a new hand is dealt. And a different story unfolds in every game. If all your opponents are pros just imagine how many strategies and deceptive ploys you can throw at each other. That's not even the hard part. The real appeal of the game is to be able to read each one's strategy and try to go for the checkmate.
Basically, a pro formulates two kinds of strategies: the long term and the short term. The pro uses the constant phases of the poker game as the foundation of his long term strategies; while the variable phases, as his short-term. Yet another strategy is used for immediate actions, which requires the pro to be very aware of the situation.
Understanding the Game
There are infinite strategies in poker in the same way that there are infinite ways to pull off deceptions. To understand the game is to get a grasp of where to get your sources of your long-term strategies. Generally, the pro uses these elements for long term goals: the quality of players, the betting pace, the availability of cash, the credit situation of everyone, the general attitude of players and their friendliness, the common areas of resentment and resistance, the bluffing styles and attitudes corresponding to that, and the reasons of players' turnover. If the pro fails to analyze these ingredients one or two of these things can happen: a decreased edge odds, bad calls and missed opportunities, and deficiency of strategies.
Knowing Your Opponents
To get a feel of how to launch your short range strategies, first of all, you have to know who you're playing against. A good note about your opponents' personality, weaknesses, strengths, behavior patterns, financial status, betting and raising styles, bluffing and dropping techniques, areas of errors and confusion, and motives of playing would be optimal. Action Strategies
Your action strategy requires a quick assessment of the current situation. Basically, a pro estimates his strength by assessing his fundamental position to the statistical value of his hand to that of his opponents.
